Medplum Provider Customization
Customize navigation, charting, scheduling, worklists, tasks, patient summaries, forms, role-based experiences, and specialty workflows—or use Provider as a reference and build a distinct clinical UI.
Build custom EHRs, provider workflows, patient experiences, FHIR-native applications, and modernization programs on Medplum—with an engineering team that already uses Medplum as a foundation for its own healthcare platform.
Medplum provides an open-source, FHIR-native platform with APIs, authentication, access control, clinical data services, reusable React components, Provider App foundations, automation capabilities, and supported self-hosting patterns.
Our role is to turn that foundation into the healthcare product your organization actually needs: a custom clinical application, a specialty workflow, a modern replacement for a legacy system, a patient experience, an integration layer, or a combination of these.
We can work from an existing Medplum project, fork and customize a reference application, or design a new application architecture around Medplum APIs and FHIR resources.
A focused Medplum engineering partner for product teams that need more than platform setup.
Customize navigation, charting, scheduling, worklists, tasks, patient summaries, forms, role-based experiences, and specialty workflows—or use Provider as a reference and build a distinct clinical UI.
Build branded provider, patient, operations, mobile, or administrative applications using Medplum APIs, SDKs, FHIR resources, subscriptions, and reusable components where appropriate.
Translate real workflows into durable FHIR models, profiles, references, access patterns, tenancy decisions, identifiers, and application boundaries instead of treating FHIR as only an interchange format.
Map proprietary schemas to FHIR, build repeatable migration pipelines, preserve identifiers and provenance, validate transformed records, reconcile exceptions, and plan incremental cutover.
Connect Medplum with EHRs, HIEs, labs, clearinghouses, external APIs, HL7 interfaces, files, SMART on FHIR applications, and client-specific systems.
Use event-driven services, Medplum capabilities, external workers, queues, and PragmaConnect Bridge where needed to move healthcare workflows from data access to completed operational actions.
Design a client-controlled deployment, infrastructure, CI/CD, environment strategy, monitoring, backups, upgrades, and operating model around the self-hosted Medplum stack.
Load-sensitive workflows, async processing, exception queues, release validation, observability, regression testing, and ongoing engineering support for production healthcare applications.
Our goal is to help you build durable healthcare technology without creating a new services lock-in.
For bespoke development, our intended commercial model is that the project-specific application code, designs, workflows, and custom IP created for your product are owned by you under the engagement agreement. We can work in client-owned repositories and client-controlled cloud environments from the beginning.
Open-source software such as Medplum, third-party libraries, and any pre-existing reusable JAWK/PragmaConnect components remain under their respective licenses or ownership and are identified separately in the contract.
Use Medplum to avoid rebuilding common healthcare infrastructure while keeping control over the user experience, workflows, and product roadmap.
Introduce Medplum as a FHIR-native data and workflow layer while replacing legacy screens, services, and integrations in controlled phases.

We do not force every feature into one codebase. A maintainable Medplum implementation separates the FHIR foundation from custom product logic and external integration responsibilities.
Our existing anonymized case study includes Medplum as the FHIR platform foundation alongside Node.js, TypeScript, React, Flutter, PostgreSQL, AWS, and SMART on FHIR.
The solution combined provider workflows, patient access, appointments, telehealth, consent, healthcare records, and AI-enabled modules—demonstrating the kind of full-product engineering required around a FHIR platform.
Read the Medplum / FHIR Case Study →These answers describe our engineering approach. Final architecture, licensing, compliance, and ownership terms depend on the specific engagement.
Yes. We can customize the Provider experience when it is a good starting point, or build a separate React application on Medplum APIs when the product needs a substantially different workflow or user experience.
Yes. We favor staged modernization: understand the existing workflows and data model, introduce clear interfaces, map legacy data to FHIR where useful, migrate selected workflows, validate reconciliation, and retire legacy components only when the replacement is stable.
Medplum supports self-hosted deployments. We can help design a client-controlled deployment and operating model, including infrastructure, environments, CI/CD, monitoring, backup, upgrade planning, and application support.
Our intended bespoke-development model gives clients ownership of project-specific custom code and IP created for their product under the engagement agreement. Open-source components, third-party dependencies, and pre-existing reusable components remain subject to their respective licenses or ownership.
Yes. Our broader interoperability experience includes FHIR, SMART on FHIR, HL7, EHR APIs, HIEs, files, and provider-authorized workflow automation when the available API cannot complete the required action.
PragmaConnect and JAWK Softwares are independent engineering providers. We build on the open-source Medplum platform; this page does not imply endorsement, certification, or affiliation by Medplum.
Bring us your existing architecture, workflow, or legacy system. We can discuss where Medplum helps, where custom engineering belongs, and what should remain outside the platform.
